  2. Do Now: Quiz #2 auto/aut, belli, bibl, bio, capit/capt, carn, caus/caut (teachers will check for poem drafts during the quiz)
  3. After: finish notes for imagery, figures of speech, tone and theme
  4. Then: Argument Writing Workshop (Timed writing assignment) Click here for helpful outline
  5. Finish: Journal Check for understanding- Can you use your knowledge of poetry terms to write an argument about a poem's effectiveness? Why or why not?

  • Continue Independent Reading
  • Continue working on next stanza of your poem. Typed draft due next class.  Here is a reminder of the requirements:
The Object Poem 
…is about an object that has personal meaning to you.
…when finished, will be at least two stanzas, 8 lines, contain rhyme, symbolism, imagery, figures of speech, tone and theme.
…will be revised several times for accuracy, spelling and completion.
...does not mention the name of the object in the body of the poem. The name is listed one space below the last line of the poem.

  1. Do Now: Read/Listen to The Guitar by Federico Garcia Lorca (p. 648) and write in your journals what feelings you think the speaker's use of images convey.  Then, write what you think the mood of the poem is.   
  • This may help:  
    • image (appeals to sight) + sensory language (word choice) = effect (feeling/mood)
  1. Then: Read/Listen to The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop (p. 650-1) for symbolism, imagery, figures of speech, tone and theme
  2. After: Discussion about music that contains these items
