  2. After: Quiz Review
  3. Then: Read/Review 'This Week in Language Arts'
  4. Next: Read/Review 'Quarterly Goals and Expectations'
Homework
  • Bring revised draft 2 of the Research Paper to class tomorrow/Wednesday (we will be editing them as a group using this slideshow)
  • Continue independent reading (if you did not sign-up by last Friday, it is your responsibility to get a copy of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury from me.)
Tuesday and Wednesday, April 2 and 3
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Journal reflecting on how your Research Paper could be improved upon
  2. Then: Preview directions for editing workshop
  3. After: Conduct peer-editing workshop
  4. Next: 'Ask the editor' segment (students are given the opportunity to ask the editors of their papers what the editing marks mean)
  5. Reminder: Draft 3 of the Research Paper is due by Monday, April 8 (No other drafts are required, but a 4th will be offered as an optional enrichment activity)
Homework
  • 'Create a copy' in Google Drive of the new Draft 3, make revisions to the research paper, Print and turn-in by Monday, April 8
  • Continue working on Independent Reading
  • Study Short Story Terms (Test to come later in April)
Thursday and Friday, April 4 and 5
Classwork
  1. Do Now: Journal to address the question, "What makes a short story, a short story?"
  2. Then: Read/Listen to Edgar Allen Poe's "Masque of the Red Death"  and attempt to identify the parts of the short story (using the back of 'This Week in Language Arts')
  3. After: Summarize the activities that take place in the six rooms (each group gets one)
  4. Next: What does the seventh room symbolize?  How does this symbolize the theme of the story? What message does the story convey about attempting to avoid conflict?
  5. Finish: Journal about what you might want to write your short story about
Homework
  • Finish revision Draft 3 and print (due on Monday, April 8)
  • Study for Quiz # 26: ate, ary/ery/ory, ant, cian, cule/ling, cy, dom
  • Think about ideas for a short story- focus on theme and/or character (three ideas due next Tuesday/Wednesday in class)
  • Continue working on Independent Reading
