Fisher- Language Arts (Periods 1, 4, 5, 6, and 7)

Hiroshima Reflection Prompts:
  1. Given your knowledge about World War II from History class and what you learned while reading Hiroshima, defend or attack the Allies' decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Use examples from the book and your own experience to support your answer.
  2. Compare and contrast the description of life during World War II in Hiroshima to another book or film about the Pacific Theater during that time-period.
  3. Describe your experience reading Hiroshima with the reading strategies in class. Would you use this method again? If not, what is an alternative method that you could use?

Directions: Choose ONE of the prompts above to answer. Remember to introduce the main idea, then subtopics, support with evidence, and conclude. This should be several paragraphs in length. It would be a good idea to map-out your ideas before sitting down to type your answer. Use an outline or graphic organizer to do this for yourself.

Requirements: When you begin typing place your name, my name, class/period, and date at the top-left of the sheet. The title will simply be whichever prompt you decided to answer from above, and should be centered on the page one space down from the heading. To 'meet' or 'exceed' proficiency, the reflection should be at least 250 words or no less than one full typed page. The response does need to be typed and will be due with the portfolio during the second week of the 4th Quarter.

Research Paper Reflection Prompts:

  1. Honestly, think about whether or not you completed tasks when they were assigned. If you did, describe how this helped you during the research process. If you did not complete tasks as they were assigned, how did it hurt you during the process? Finally, describe what you will do differently the next time you participate in a research assignment.
  2. Compared to other major projects (Tempest project, SIFT Analysis) you have completed during the Sophomore English class, describe how easy or difficult the reasearch paper was for you.
  3. What would you change about the research paper process in English class to make it a more effective learning opportunity? Please remember that some things cannot change, like: MLA format, research, bibliography, works cited, page length, etc.

Directions: Your answer should be at least 250 words or one typed page in length. Choose ONE of the prompts to answer before you begin. It would be a good idea to map-out your response before sitting-down to write (outline, mind-map, graphic organizer).

Requirements: Your name, my name, class/period, and date should be written at the top-left. The title will simply be whichever prompt you chose to answer, and is centered on the page one space below the heading. The reflection should be at least 250 words or one typed page in length. It does need to be typed, and will be due with the portfolio during the second week of the 4th Quarter.
